Check out the Multi Unit Residential trend from our friends at LoopNet. The County vs the Metro trend is interesting. 

I believe that the downward trend in Contra Costa County is because the sales volume has dropped significantly. Rent's are high and property owners don't want to sell right now. My opinion is based on personal experience.
